News for September

Well the 'Painting Fairies' course officially begins in September! It will be held at the Brierley Hill learning centre on Tuesday nights 7-9 pm.  I will confirm dates over the next couple of days. The course will probably kick off with some basic drawing skills and then develop a watercolour and maybe an acrylic to follow over the duration of 10 weeks... anybody interested should drop me a line here or via my website.. or any other way you know of contacting me!

Up n runnin!

Hello one and all.. well as of this eve the new look website is now live so please do check it out.. its a tad leaner with all the bells and whistles removed and just focuses on current and recent work rather than the all encompassing sites that have come before!... www.seancounley.com

The workshops in Brierley Hill were a success with every seat taken.. this has led to potential for two in-depth courses to hopefully begin running in September - one digital and one traditional - pending funding so I can keep you up to date on how that progresses.

So whats coming up this week.. well the titanic mural project begins again after a weeks break and hopefully I will get some photographs up on here to document progress after this weeks session.  Also after a break for the Bank Holiday the life drawing sessions that I run with my best friend miss Natalie Gore will be returning.. if you want to check out more about this then click this little link here.. I am thinking of putting intermittently my best sketches from each weeks session on here too so that you can actually start seeing some work :D.

So now that we are talking work, here is my latest creation for Imagine FX May Challenge titled 'A Land Far, Far Away'.  I thouroughly enjoyed working on this idea that seemed to come together well although there were some serious revisions at one stage!  The premise of the backstory revolves around settlers or pilgrims who have made a long and weary journey across a world lashed by storms and heavy rain. Finally to arrive at their destination, guided by the massive beams of light that show the way to refuge. If you want to follow the progress of this piece and the other entrants then check out ImageFX forum here.

Well until next time..

Well I think that I am starting to get the hang of some things on here now.. still not sure how to get RSS feeds that I want to link to working properly from here (see 'Pirates'!).

So what's coming up this week.. well in the Dudley Borough area it is Adult Learners Week and I shall be heading up 2 one-off workshops in Brierley Hill. The first workshop is an introduction to Digital Art and will include a quick painting done using the online tool Sumo-Paint. In the same workshop I shall also be discussing other software such as Art Rage and Photoshop and online communities such as CGSociety and ImagineFX.

The second workshop also in Brierley Hill is a watercolour Fairy painting, how to design a fairy and some basic watercolour techniques. Both of these workshops are free to attend so come along to the Brierley Hill neighbourhood learning centre on either wednesday or thursday 6.30 - 8.30 PM.

Arts Factor 2011 will be held in July and I shall be taking a few adult learners throough the painting of a 6m mural of the sunken Titanic Wreck for display during the exhibition. I finished the master painting for this today and will have it on here in the next couple of days.. photographs of the developing mural will follow as it progresses!

Catch you all later!
